What is the most important symbol or motif in Gatsby? Discuss the theme it supports.

The setting in The Great Gatsby is important to the development of several themes. Explain the role of one of the settings and its connection to a theme. Find an example or description of the setting in the book and incorporate it into your answer.

Gatsby Question #1- 100 word minimum

Who is the most interesting character in Gatsby? Explain your answer. Why is he/she the most interesting and is he/she likeable or not?

What do you think of the point of view used by Faulkner?  How would it be different if it were told by Miss Emily?  What about Tobe?  What would his point of view added to the story?

Hemingway is known for his "Iceberg" style of writing.  He only gives so much information, claiming the reader is intelligent enough to sort through the rest of the information to understand what is really happening. 

1.  50 words-  What point of view does Hemingway use?  Why not tell the story in another mode?

2.  150 words-  What is the issue the couple is discussing in the story?  How does she feel?  How does he feel?  How do you feel about the characters due to their discussion?

"The Things They Carried"

When thinking about "The Things They Carried" by O'Brien, the idea of the Christ motif comes to mind.  The Christ motif is often used in literature.  It is the symbolic retelling of Christ's characteristics through modern literature.  Harry Potter can be an example of this with his good vs. evil, snake talking, and his being "chosen" to save the world.  What elements do you see in this story which could symbolize biblical imagery?  Your answer should be 50 words or more.
